Getting Started with vCloud Availability (vCAV)

vCloud Availability (vCAV) enables disaster recovery and live migration for your workloads. For a detailed overview, see the article vCloud Availability Overview

Prerequisite: To enable vCAV for your organization, please contact your manager.

Once activated, you can manage vCAV directly from your vCloud Director portal.

Managing Replication

Access the vCAV interface to control both incoming and outgoing replications for your virtual machines (VMs).

  • Incoming Replicas: VMs being replicated to your environment.

  • Outgoing Replicas: VMs being replicated from your environment.

How to Set Up New Protection (Replication)

To start protecting a VM, click the New protection button. This launches a setup wizard to guide you through the process.

  1. Select Source: Choose the vApp and VMs you want to replicate.

  2. Choose Target: Select the physical and virtual data center destination for the replicas.

  3. Configure Settings: Adjust sync settings, such as disk exclusions and synchronization schedules.

  4. Review & Finish: Confirm your choices and start the initial replication.

Done! Your VM is now protected.

How to Perform a Migration

To migrate a VM, click the New migration button.

Note that you must specify the direction of the migration (e.g., from your cloud to another provider).

The migration wizard will guide you through five steps:

Step 1: Select vApp and VM
Choose the resources you want to migrate.

Step 2: Select Target Physical Data Center
Choose the physical destination for your resources.

Step 3: Select Target Virtual Data Center
Select the organization VDC (virtual data center) within the physical location.

Step 4: Configure Migration Settings
Fine-tune the process. You can exclude specific disks from the migration and schedule the synchronization start time.

Step 5: Review and Start
Verify all settings are correct and initiate the migration.
