Initial VM Setup and Configuration (HTML5)

Continuation from Part 2: Edge Gateway Configuration

Prerequisites

Before proceeding, ensure:
- Edge Gateway is properly configured (Part 2)
- You have:

  • Your VDC's external IP address

  • Custom port numbers (if default ports were changed)

Power On the Virtual Machine

  1. Navigate to Virtual Machines in your management console.

  2. Select your VM and click Power On.

Wait for status to change to "Powered On".

 

Open the console via:

  • Launch Web Console (HTML5)

  • Launch VM Remote Console (VMRC)
  • Wait for OS initialization, then click Next.

Accept the license agreement.

 

Set a secure Administrator password:

  • Minimum 10 characters

  • Include uppercaselowercasenumbers, and special characters
    (Note: Password recovery is not supported by system administrators.)

Confirm the password and click Done.

 

  1. After setup completes, the VM will be accessible via RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).

    • Use the external IP and port configured in Edge Gateway (Part 2).

 

Open Local Group Policy Editor

Log in to the VM via RDP.

Right-click the Windows Start Menu → Select Run.

 

Enter gpedit.msc. Press Enter.

 

In the policy editor, go to:
Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) → VMware View Agent Configuration → View Agent Direct-Connection Configuration.

Double-click External IP Address.

 

Select Enabled.

Enter your VDC's external IP address.

Click OK.

 

Configure Custom Ports (If Applicable)

Only required if default ports were changed in Edge Gateway.

For each port, repeat:

Policy Setting Default Port Custom Port Field
HTTPS Port Number 443 TCP Enter custom value
External PCoIP Port 4172 TCP/UDP Enter custom value
External RDP Port 3389 TCP Enter custom value
External Framework Channel Port 32111 TCP Enter custom value

 

Example (External RDP Port):

  • Select Enabled

  • Enter the custom external port number

  • Click OK

 

Close the Group Policy Editor.

Restart the VM for changes to take effect.
