S3 Object Storage is a scalable and cost-effective service for storing large amounts of data that don't change frequently, such as backups, documents, videos, photos, and more. Nextcloud can use S3 as an external storage, and for users, it will appear as a regular folder in the Nextcloud interface.
To connect S3 with Nextcloud, you will need the following information from your S3 account: bucket name, access key, and secret key. For more information on working with S3, please refer to our knowledge base's object storage section.
Here are the steps to connect S3 Object Storage:
1. Login to the Nextcloud web interface with an administrator account.
2. Install the Nextcloud plugin for working with S3.
To do this, please click on the icon with your initials in the top right corner of the Nextcloud screen. Then, select "Applications" from the menu that appears. In the list, find the "External storage support" application and enable it.
3. Click on your initials again and go to "Settings".
4. In the "Administration" menu, find "External Storage" and click on it.
5. Enter a desired folder name and choose "Amazon S3" as the storage type.
6. Fill in the connection parameters for the object storage in the appropriate fields.
For example, for the "s3.objstor.cloud4u.com" object storage and "Nextcloud" bucket, the settings will look like this:
7. Your object storage is now connected and you can work with it like a regular folder.
