Cloud4U offers customers a VMware-based SAP HANA virtualisation solution - SAP HANA Hosting. This service will be in particular demand by companies that need instant access and analysis of large data sets, hundreds of times faster than using traditional DBMS.
Positioned as an in-memory computing technology, SAP HANA (High Performance Analytical Appliance) is a high-performance analytical tool. The majority of data processing in SAP HANA takes place in RAM. It uses a combination of line-by-line and column-by-column data storage and compression algorithms. This specificity requires special RAM- and storage-intensive servers to run the system reliably.
In May 2014, VMware announced that the first hypervisor for productive use of SAP HANA in the cloud is the VMware vSphere product, starting with version 5.5. Bernd Leukert, member of the executive board, SAP AG, said: "Together with VMware, SAP is helping customers host mission-critical SAP HANA-based applications in virtual environments, accelerating the transition to software-defined data centres and ultimately to the cloud."
Cloud4U provides flexible on-demand infrastructure (IaaS) based on VMware vSphere and certified hardware for a virtualised SAP HANA solution. It supports up to 4 Tbytes (4080 GB) of memory and up to 128 virtual cores for a single installation on VMware vSphere. SAP HANA supports VMware vSphere client system management features, including vMotion®, Distributed Resource Scheduler™ (DRS) and VMware High Availability (HA).
By leveraging the cloud for SAP HANA, organisations gain flexible scalability and high IT performance with significant capital cost savings.
