VMware vCloud Director is the premier VMware vSphere cloud infrastructure management tool for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) service providers and their customers.

The control panel allows you to create and manage virtual machines, migrate them from another cloud, flexibly manage access rights to the pool of virtual resources, create internal routed and isolated networks, configure flexible firewall rules, create VPN connections, configure load balancing between virtual machines and much more.

Earlier Cloud4U moved its virtual infrastructure under the management of vCloud Director 8.10, providing customers with useful and expected functionality. For example, the vCloud Director 8.10 web console enabled granular storage policy management on a per-virtual-drive basis for each VM. Previously, you could only change storage policies through the vCloud API.

 The move to version 8.20 is driven by our desire to provide end users with the maximum convenience and customisation that vCloud Director offers. This release adds advanced functionality by fully integrating VMware NSX into the platform. NSX networking is a library of logical network elements and services such as logical switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs and security tools. Users can now create any network topology, from simple to multi-tiered, in seconds using a new and highly anticipated HTML5 interface.

New features in vCloud Director 8.20 include

- Advanced configuration of edge gateway and distributed firewall components through the new vCloud Director Tenant Portal, which allows you to configure dynamic routing and firewalls both within your network and between your organisation's vDCs;

- The new vCloud Director API for NSX, which allows you to leverage the capabilities of the product at the individual client level;

- Support for SSL VPN access, in addition to IPSec and L2 VPN;

- Client-level role management;

- Support for the VM-Host Affinity Rule, which determines which groups of VMs should be hosted on which hosts without using VMware DRS recommendations;

- Automatic discovery and import of virtual machines;

- Multi-cell upgrade utility now supports upgrading all cells in a server group with a single operation.
